Profile Of A Healthy Church

New Sunday Series based on 1st Thessalonians-

The Christian Walk

This message begins our new series in the book of 1st Thessalonians. Our new series is entitled, “The Profile of a Growing Church.” 1st Thessalonians is an interesting book in part because it is a study of the End Times, when God comes back to judge the world and to recreate everything making it brand new again, to inaugurate Eternity-Future. This book also contains a rich treasure of information about what constitutes a growing church, which is what we are going to talk about in this message,

Leadership

This is a very timely topic. Today, we are going through a leadership crisis in our country. Where have all our leaders gone? Where are the George Washingtons, the Abraham Lincolns, our thinkers and philosophers that led our country to greatness? Where are those with skill and integrity who are prepared to step up and lead with excellence? There seems to be a dearth of those kinds of people today and hence the question, where have all our leaders gone?

Serving Christ With A Parental Heart

When we serve Christ with a pure heart we will see lasting results. To emphasize this, Paul describes his ministry and these passages with a parental metaphor involved. His specific views of family images are significant as he portrays the church organization as part of his family or more specifically, his children. Paul illustrated this type of leadership in part, so that we can develop a heart of love and compassion for others.

Open To The Gospel

Throughout redemptive history, the Gospel has been viewed in one of two ways. Some people understand it and accept it without any hesitation. Others believe it is irrelevant, false and reject it. In 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16, Paul makes a striking contrast between these two groups of people. These two groups are very present today, in so much that gaining a deeper understanding about these contrasts can help us when we are sharing our faith.

A Pastor’s Heart

Pastors are called by God to oversee the spiritual development and growth of the church. Not only pastors, but elders as well are called in a similar manner. This is a huge task and has many different concerns. In the first two chapters of Thessalonians, Paul has discussed some of these concerns and in chapter 3 we see more of his concerns. In this message, we review his concerns and look at them more closely.
